Winright Law’s Principal Lawyer, Winston Kam, Joins Panel at UBC’s Allard School of Law

We’re proud to share that our principal lawyer and founder, Winston Kam, was recently invited to speak on a panel at the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia. The session focused on a topic that resonates deeply with many new and aspiring lawyers: practising at a small law firm and managing your own practice.

The panel brought together practitioners from small and boutique firms to share their experiences, career journeys, and insights into life outside of large-firm practice. Winston highlighted an important reality in the legal profession — that most lawyers, including those in business law, work within small or mid-size firms. He spoke about the hands-on nature of the work, the close relationships built with clients, and the unique opportunities that come with a smaller, entrepreneurial practice environment.

Attendees received practical advice on navigating the early stages of their careers, understanding the realities of running a practice, and recognizing both the advantages and challenges of working in a small-firm setting. Winston emphasized the importance of community, mentorship, and building a practice rooted in trust and service.

We are grateful to Allard Law for hosting this event and for offering students valuable insight into the diverse paths available within the legal profession. Winright Law is always excited to support and encourage the next generation of lawyers.
